A Call To Come Home

Rooted in the realization that we exist as a collective of exiles in various forms, ANIE events delve into the question of what it takes to return home. ANIE seeks to connect audiences to inspirational and critically necessary art and introduce them to organizations actively nurturing our community.

Heartwood Narratives

February 8, 2024 / Doors 5:00 PM / 21c Museum Hotel

Join us for an unforgettable evening at the 21c Museum Hotel. Embark on a powerful journey into the heart of the black femme experience with Heartwood Narratives—an exploration of exile, identity, and finding home. Unveiling the layers of the StrongBlackWoman stereotype, this event delves into vulnerability and openness, shattering walls and embracing authentic identities. The proceeds raised at this event will benefit Uzazi Village, a local black maternal healthcare organization.

About Us

A Nation in Exile is a series of activation events bringing together local artists and artists from around the world to perform in Kansas City. At each of our events, we partner with a local social justice or community building organization to uplift their work, fundraise through ticket sales, and invite the community into civic participation.

The series centers multidisciplinary arts, political engagement, and community building to connect local struggles for liberation to those happening globally.
